10 years simplifying complexity

A series of 10 lessons learned after helping EU-funded projects, NGOs and international organisations communicate complex information.

Lesson 1

One of the most important lessons we have learned over the past 10 years is that data alone rarely creates impact.

Most organisations already have valuable information. Research findings, surveys, technical studies, performance indicators and project results are generated every day across organisations of all sizes. The challenge is rarely collecting data. The challenge is helping people understand it.

Large amounts of information often remain hidden inside reports, spreadsheets or technical documents. While the data itself may be valuable, its impact is limited if audiences struggle to identify the key insights. Well-structured reports design helps audiences identify those key findings more quickly and communicate them more effectively.

A clear chart can reveal a trend immediately. A comparison graphic can make differences obvious. An infographic can explain relationships and processes that would otherwise require several pages of text. Our infographic design services help organisations transform technical information into clear visual stories.

Good data visualisation is not about decoration. It is about communication. The objective is not to make information look more attractive. The objective is to make information easier to understand, remember and share. This is particularly relevant for organisations working with complex topics such as sustainability, energy, public policy, research, health or EU-funded projects. These sectors often generate evidence-based information that needs to be communicated to multiple audiences, each with different levels of expertise.

Over the years, we have seen how effective visualisation can transform the way information is perceived and used. When people understand data more quickly, they engage more effectively with the message behind it.

One example is our work supporting organisations that need to communicate research findings, technical information and project results through visual communication. By transforming complex content into charts, infographics and visual narratives, information becomes more accessible and easier to use.

This is why visual communication should be considered part of the communication strategy, not simply the final design stage. Because data becomes powerful when people can see what it means.
